Deputies: 14-year-old boy skipped school to go target shooting, accidentally shot himself in leg

EVERETT -- A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the leg when he skipped school to go target shooting with his friends, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.

According to sheriff's deputies, the boy's friend called 911 around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday to say the boy accidentally shot himself in the 12400 block of Admiralty Way in Everett.

When deputies arrived, they found the boy, a Voyager Middle School student, with a leg injury. He was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The gun the boy used to go shooting belonged to a parent, deputies said.

The incident is under investigation.
