Plea deal dropped for man accused of crushing young girl

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A plea deal in the death of 23-month old Selah girl fell apart after a disagreement over the expected sentence.

David Holbrook had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the girl's death. A Yakima County Superior Court judge threw out that plea Wednesday and reinstated a second-degree murder charge.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (http://bit.ly/1vUnKH4) Holbrook's trial is scheduled next month.

The prosecutor wanted more than a standard 6- to 8-year standard manslaughter sentence for Holbrook.

Holbrook is accused of hitting his girlfriend's daughter in the head and sitting on her, crushing her chest. He told police she was injured when he tossed her in the air and she accidentally struck the ceiling.
