CHICAGO, Illinois —  Incredible video captured by an Illinois photographer and avid birder shows an owl swimming in Lake Michigan.

Steve Spitzer told WGN-TV he was at a Chicago beach when he saw something out in the lake.

Another birder nearby said it was a Great Horned Owl that had been forced into the water by two attacking Peregrine Falcons.

Spitzer said he started shooting video and photos of the owl as he and others worked to frighten the falcons into retreating.

A bird rescue group was called to the scene, but the owl was able to get out of the water and fly away on its own.
