Authorities arrest person accused of crashing minivan into Burien store, holding police at bay for hours

BURIEN, Wash -- After a nearly 5-hour long standoff, authorities were able to arrest a person who allegedly rammed a minivan into a sporting goods store in an attempt to burglarize the business early Tuesday morning.

Investigators on scene had told Q13 FOX News they feared whoever was inside may have gone straight to the guns on display and armed themselves further with weapons and ammunition.

Authorities said they were called moments after the vehicle crashed its way into the Big 5 store on SW 148th Street and arrived on scene while the burglar or burglars were still inside the business.

That's when the standoff began and negotiators tried to convince whoever was inside to give themselves up and come out peacefully.

SW 148th Street was closed from 1st Ave to 3rd Ave SW for hours and reporters at the scene we even moved further afield at one point out of concern they could be within shooting distance.

The man is expected to face charges in federal court, authorities said.
