Survey: Thai food more popular than pizza in Seattle

SEATTLE - Your stomach's growling and it's dinner time. If you're dining out in Seattle you have many culinary choices. A new survey out says that you're more likely to pick Thai cuisine, at least over pizza, the Seattle Times reported.

The market-research firm Scarborough survey shows that Thai food has become more popular than Chinese, and pizza, for Seattle diners, the Times reported. Pretty amazing since Seattle didn't have any Thai restaurants before until 1981.

Scarborough asked 2,319 adults in King and Snohomish counties about the types of restaurants they’ve patronized in the past 30 days. Among Seattle residents, 29 percent responded Thai, second only to Mexican.

It’s hard to say why we’ve developed such a penchant for panang and pad see ew in Seattle, but it seems to be a Northwest thing: Portland has even more Thai restaurants than we do, the Times reported.
