Crews chase after two runaway barges in Puget Sound (PHOTOS)

SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Crews monitored two runaway barges that broke their tethering and drifted loose in the Puget Sound Thursday near Everett.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the barges were tied together and about 300-feet long and 60-feet wide. They were first spotted drifting around 9:30 a.m.

A short time later, the barges beached on breakwater at Mission Beach in Tulalip.

A tugboat pulled the barges away from shore around 10:30 a.m. They were secured afterwards.
