Rescue units searching for body of 5-year-old boy in river; woman saved

RENTON– Marine rescue units and sheriff’s deputies are searching for the body of a 5-year-old boy lost Wednesday morning in the Cedar River near Renton.

The boy allegedly entered the river with a woman around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies quickly rescued the adult woman from the river, but could not locate the boy.

The woman’s condition was not immediately known following her rescue. After about three hours of search and rescue teams trying to find and save the boy, they switched to recovery mode, meaning they believed the boy was dead.

According to the Renton Police Department, someone called 911 to report they saw a mother and child enter the river this morning, which was swollen and moving fast after days of rain.
