Washington State Patrol chief suffers stroke

OLYMPIA -- Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste suffered what the WSP is calling a "manageable" stroke while vacationing with his family in Hawaii.

A State Patrol spokesman said Wednesday that doctors advised Batiste against flying, so he is undergoing physical therapy in Hawaii. He suffered the stroke last weekend.

Batiste, who was appointed chief in 2005, hopes to return to work in a couple of months, the spokesman said.
