Police: Woman sexually assaulted, punched in the face while on her way to catch a train

SEATTLE -- Police officers arrested a man Tuesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman and punched her in the face while she was on her way to catch a train.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the victim was walking down 3rd Avenue just after 5 p.m. on her way to catch a train when she spotted a shirtless man walking toward her.

The victim kept walking, but the man approached her from behind and allegedly stuck his hand insider her pants and "repeatedly" punched her in the head, police said. The suspect attempted to take the victim's phone, but she fended him off.

Several bystanders grabbed the suspect and held him until police could take him into custody. The man -- who was on drugs, police said -- was booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery and indecent liberties.

The victim was not seriously injured, but was shaken up in the attack.
