AUBURN, Wash. — Police have arrested a man at an adult care facility for allegedly sexually abusing an 83-year-old woman. They said the abuse was caught on video using a ‘nanny cam’ after the resident’s family suspected something was wrong.

“Our officers were affected by it,” Auburn Police Department’s Mark Caillier said Friday.  “It’s a very disturbing video. Based on the video, they immediately made an arrest of the individual.”

Auburn police responded to the Auburn Adult Care home in the 2700 block of Forest Ridge Drive Southeast just after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators said the victim was an 83-year-old woman who lived at the facility.

“That’s upsetting because I’m actually a caregiver myself,” said neighbor Regine Robust. “These people, their families trust us to take of elderly people.”

The victim and all 11 other elderly residents were removed from the facility and transported by ambulances to area hospitals until arrangements can be made for their care, police said.

The adult caregiver was booked into the SCORE jail facility in Des Moines on investigation of sexual assault, police said.

The Department of Health and Human Services has suspended the license of the care facility. DSHS also released a list of past infractions at the facility, which included failure to give medications, and non-functioning smoke detectors, but no sexual abuse allegations. Until now.

Police expect to file several charges against the accused caregiver who, they say, has admitted to the sexual assault seen in the video.
