Alaska Airlines Oakland-to-Seattle flight sustains bird strike after takeoff, returns to airport

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Alaska Airlines Flight 349 en route from Oakland to Seattle Friday night had to turn around and land at the Oakland Airport after a bird strike. No one was injured.

Flight 349 -- with a total of 153 people on board -- took off at 6:50 p.m. and shortly after takeoff it hit what the crew suspected was a bird, the airline said.The plane returned to Oakland and landed safely at 7:22 p.m.

The plane was unloaded while crews inspected the aircraft for damage. Passengers were being put on a later flight.
