Cops: Dad killed 3-month-old girl because he was 'frustrated' she wouldn't stop crying

KITSAP COUNTY -- A 20-year-old man is in police custody for allegedly killing his 3-month-old daughter by shaking and dropping her after he grew upset at her crying, sheriff's deputies said.

According to Kitsap County sheriff's deputies, the young mother and father were staying with someone Friday at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor when the mother traveled to Seattle for an event, leaving the young dad home alone with the baby.

The suspect allegedly admitted to growing "frustrated" at the baby while he was watching her because she wouldn't stop crying. He told detectives he held the baby by the arms and shook her very hard, and even struck her in the forehead, sheriff's deputies said.

The father also allegedly told detectives he was holding the baby while walking and she fell from his shoulders to the ground, hitting very hard. The baby was unresponsive after hitting the ground, the suspect allegedly told police, and after an hour and a half he went to the neighbor for some help.

Emergency workers were called to the home and transported the baby to the Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale Friday night. The baby was later transported to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma.

The infant died of of her injuries Sunday.

The suspect was arrested Saturday afternoon on suspicion of first-degree child assault. Those charges were amended to second-degree murder after the child died.

The suspect is being held in Kitsap County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail. He was expected to make his first court appearance Monday.
