KENT, Wash. — The Kent School District said Wednesday that, “in abundance of caution,” it will increase security at Kent-Meridian High School and excuse students who don’t want to attend class Thursday over a threat that “lacked specific credibility.”

“A report of a potential threat to Kent-Meridian High School was made earlier today,” a statement issued Wednesday by the district.

“Based on our thorough investigation, staff and students were told at the end of the school day the threat lacked specific credibility.

“However, in abundance of caution and based on the unique sensitivity with regard to recent events at other school districts, it was determined earlier this evening that we should increase our usual strong security presence with local law enforcement  and additional KSD Safety officers on campus Thursday.

“We have just sent out a message to all KM parents that should they choose to keep their child out of school tomorrow (Thursday) because of their own concerns, we will respect that decision and the absence will be excused,” the statement said.

A Halloween prank, maybe? A threat is a crime that needs to be dealt with. Peoples lives aren’t worth going to prison the rest of your life.
