Woman found slain in Clallam County, her car abandoned in Oregon; acquaintance being sought

PORT ANGELES, Wash. -- A 65-year-old woman was found slain in the Salt Creek RV Park in Joyce and her missing car was later discovered abandoned near the Oregon-Idaho border, the Clallam County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

The sheriff's office is seeking Joel Kevin Brown, 52, as a person of interest in the case.

Detectives said Diane Cunningham, 65, was found in her home in the RV park Monday and her car was missing. It was later determined that Cunningham likely died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators received information that her missing car had been located in a remote area of Malheur County, Oregon, on the border with Idaho, the sheriff's office said. A hunter found the car and reported it to the local sheriff.

Detectives said they are seeking Brown, an acquaintance of Ms. Cunningham's, as a person of interest in the case.

"There is at least one warrant for Mr. Brown’s arrest as he is being sought by the Department of Corrections. The warrant is not related to this case," the sheriff's office said.

Anyone that may have information in this case or know the whereabouts of Brown are urged to call 360-417-2305.
