Woman claims wax job ripped skin off her eyelids

GLENDALE, Arizona (KTVK) -- A trip to the salon took a turn for the worst when one Arizona woman said the wax job tore off two layers of skin from her eyelids.

Ashley King said she's so outraged that not only has she filed complaints against the nail salon, but she's also hired an attorney.

"I'm definitely going to pursue my medical expenses," said King.

After getting an eyebrow wax Saturday at Annie's Fashion Nails in Glendale, King said she came out with skin missing from her eyelids.

"Never have I felt the fire-burning pain that I felt that day. I couldn't stop crying it hurt so badly," she said.
She said she went to the doctor after her eyelid creases started bleeding.

"The doctor saw me immediately and said, 'Yeah, there's skin taken from your eyes, and this was due to a burn,'" said King. "Looking at it, about two layers of skin was taken from my eyes."

King said the salon ended up refunding her the $10 after she asked for a refund, twice. But she said the salon never admitted fault.

"She told me that it was sensitive skin, and that was not her problem," said King.

We tried to get answers from the salon, but they did not want our cameras around.

The salon owner tells 3TV she does not believe it was her employee's fault, but if her employee did do this then, she's sorry.

She said the woman who did the wax job has since quit.

"How are you licensed to do the job of waxing if you're doing this to people? It's not acceptable," said King.

The Arizona State Board of Cosmetology said they are investigating.

The Better Business Bureau said they're processing King's complaint.

The salon already has a D-minus on the Better Business Bureau website.

"Always know what you're getting into, especially when you are trying a new place," said King.

King admits she didn't do the research.

"Oh, this is going to be quick and easy. 10 dollars, Why not? It's cheap.' Don't always take that route. It's not worth it. It's not worth it," said King.

3TV also tried to talk to customers who walked out of the salon looking happy with their experience, but they said they didn't want to get involved.
