Man in car sees barista girlfriend being robbed in Spanaway, runs down suspect

TACOMA -- A man who saw his barista girlfriend being robbed at her coffee stand in Spanaway drove after the suspect, knocking him down with his car when the man pointed a handgun at him, documents filed in Pierce County Superior Court said.

The suspect was able to get up and run away, but the boyfriend recovered the bag of stolen money (about $20) and a broken cell phone that the suspect apparently dropped, the documents stated.

Sheriff's detectives said they were later able to identify the suspect, through witnesses and surveillance video, as Deandre Deshae Lopez Garcia, 28, and they found a stolen .22 caliber pistol in his apartment. He was arrested.

A Superior Court judge found probable cause on Wednesday that Lopez committed first-degree robbery and second-degree assault, both with firearm enhancements.
