Pro climber, snowboarder from Tacoma dies in avalanche

TACOMA -- A professional climber and snowboarder from Tacoma died Monday in an avalanche near the Argentine town of Chalten, Outside Magazine reports.
Liz Daley, 29, was part of a ski mountaineering expedition on 7,000-foot peak Cerro Vespignani in the Fitz Roy Massif region Monday, Outside reports, when an avalanche occurred.
Daley, who was born and raised in Washington, was with three other members and two production crew members as part of a trip sponsored by Eddie Bauer. Everyone but Daley survived the avalanche. Daley's body was recovered.
Eddie Bauer released a statement following the news.
"We are deeply saddened to report that yesterday, an avalanche in the Fitz Roy Massif region outside of El Chalten, Argentina, took the life of Liz Daley, a member of our Guide team."
An unrelated avalanche killed professional freeskiers JP Auclair and Andreas Fransson in Chile on the same day, Outside reports.
