REPORT: Olympic swim legend pulled over for speeding, arrested for drunk driving

BALTIMORE, Maryland --  Celebrity gossip website TMZ reported Tuesday that American Olympic swim legend Michael Phelps was arrested in Maryland on suspicion of drunk driving.

Citing unnamed sources, the website said Phelps was pulled over at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday for allegedly going twice the legal speed limit.

Officials just issued a statement saying Phelps was initially pulled over for going 84 in a 45 ... and during the stop, the officer noticed he was hammered.

Phelps was arrested for DUI in 2004 at the age of 19, but struck a deal with prosecutors for 18 month of probation.
