Human remains found on conveyor belt at trash facility

Los Angeles, CA (KTLA) -- A homicide investigation was underway Tuesday after a worker found human remains while sorting trash on a conveyor belt at a waste collection and recycling facility in Bassett, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The grim discovery was made shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday at Athens Services, which is located in the 14000 block of Valley Boulevard, a Sheriff's Department news release stated.

It was believed the victim was a female.

The L.A. County Coroner's office was working to determine the victim's identity and cause of death, the release stated.

No further details were immediately available.
