Human remains found on conveyor belt at trash facility

Los Angeles, CA (KTLA) — A homicide investigation was underway Tuesday after a worker found human remains while sorting trash on a conveyor belt at a waste collection and recycling facility in Bassett, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The grim discovery was made shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday at Athens Services, which is located in the 14000 block of Valley Boulevard, a Sheriff’s Department news release stated.

It was believed the victim was a female.

The L.A. County Coroner’s office was working to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death, the release stated.

No further details were immediately available.

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to call the department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
