19-year-old arrested in fatal downtown shooting

FEDERAL WAY -- A 19-year-old man wanted in connection with last week's fatal shooting at 2nd Avenue and Yesler Way was arrested Tuesday in Federal Way, Seattle police said.

The man was located in Federal Way after a multi-agency manhunt that began Wednesday following the shooting. He was arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide.

According to police, the suspect opened fire on a man on the street Wednesday before fleeing the scene. The victim later died at Harborview Medical Center.

The shooting sent shockwaves through the downtown community. Jenny Rose Ryan was on the 6th floor of Smith Tower when she heard the shots.

“I think 4 pops and 1 was a little after the other,” said Jenny Rose Ryan who works in the building. “I was like, I wasn’t born yesterday I know what those were.”

Seattle police are still investigating the case, and it is not yet known if the suspect had any relationship with the victim.
