80-year-old man killed in small plane crash in Lake Stevens identified

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. -- An 80-year-old passenger killed in small plane crash in Lake Stevens on Saturday was identified by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office Monday night as Robert L. Elder of Camano Island.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office reported that the plane crashed at the Frontier Airpark around 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said the 66 year-old pilot was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries. The 80 year-old male passenger died in the crash.

The FAA identified the plane as an experimental Kitfox III.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.

Frontier Airpark is a private landing strip.
