Poor pup: Dog, just neutered, escapes from vet's office to get into more trouble

Salem, OR (KPTV) -- Being neutered is a bad enough experience for a dog, but for Harley, the day got worse when he escaped from his crate and was hit by a car.

Harley's owners took him to the Willamette Humane Society for the operation last week and signed a waiver to keep him there in a crate overnight.

Somehow, Harley managed to bend the latch on the crate, and got through two sets of doors to make it outside the building.

A short time later, somebody took Harley to an emergency veterinary clinic after he'd been hit by a car.

He has several injuries, including a broken leg, but vets say he should be OK.

Harley's owner, Mark Witherspoon doesn't blame the humane society for his dog's condition.

"It's nobody's fault," Witherspoon said. "It's just that stuff happened in a way that you couldn't predict. They've never had it happen before. They just called him 'Houdini.'"

The Willamette Humane Society said it's glad Harley is going to be OK and it will take care of all of his medical bills.
