Police search for two men following shooting near Seattle's Smith Tower

SEATTLE – Police are looking for a shooter or shooters who opened fire Wednesday morning,  hitting a man at 2nd Ave and Yesler Way following an apparent fight.

Seattle Police were called to the area near the Smith Tower just after 10:30 a.m. Officers said a man was shot after an apparent fight. Five shots were fired, and the suspect or suspects fled, police said.

The victim collapsed a short distance away from the shooting and was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing two men -- both wearing hooded sweatshirts -- running from the area following the shooting. Police are now working to identify the two men.

No additional gunfire was reported after the initial incident. A bullet did strike nearby Smith Tower in a window, but didn't go through, police said.

Traffic in the area was backed up as police investigated.



Investigators are working to determine what lead up to the shooting.
