Wildfire near Portland forces dozens to evacuate

GASTON, Oregon -- A wildfire burning about 35 miles west of Portland has forced at least 30 homes to evacuate.

KPTV reports at least 100 other residents were told to be on standby in case the fire shifts in their direction.

The Scoggins Creek Fire was first reported Friday afternoon on private land owned by a timber company.

The fire burning in the Hagg Lake area was zero-percent contained as of Saturday morning, fire officials told KPTV.

Helicopters were scooping water from the lake and dropping it on the growing 400-acre fire.

The Oregon Department of Forestry said the fire was burning in extremely dry brush and trees.

No damage or injuries had been reported as of Saturday.
