Chargers knock off Seahawks 30 -- 21 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- The Seahawks (1 - 1 - 0) struggled to even get their hands on the ball Sunday as the Chargers (1 - 1 - 0) defeated them 30 – 21 .

This was the team's first loss by more than 7 points since week nine of 2011.

It was a complete reversal from last week’s dominant 36 – 16 win over Green Bay that kicked off the season.

This week, the Hawks struggled to get their offense on the field. That put the pressure on the defense – especially with 120-degree heat on the field in San Diego.

The Chargers got on the board first with a 50-yard field goal late in the 1st quarter.

The Hawks responded with a 51-yard touchdown on a pass from Russell Wilson to Percy Harvin.

The Seahawks got lucky on that play as the replay clearly showed Harvin stepped out-of-bounds, but the NFL did not review the play before the extra point was kicked. So the TD counted giving the Hawks a 7 – 3 lead.

Philip Rivers and the Chargers kept the Seahawks defense busy all game long. They took the lead on an 8-yard TD pass to Antonio Gates early in the 2nd quarter.

Chargers extended their lead to 19 – 7 on another 8-yard touchdown pass to Gates.

The Hawks got the ball back with just over a minute remaining in the 1st hafl and found success with the hurry-up offense. Wilson marched the team down the field 69-yards to score a TD just before the half – Hawks 14, Chargers 20.

San Diego found success running the ball and even Rivers was a threat – running for several 1st downs.

Wilson led the Hawks on a steady drive and capped it off with an 8-yard TD pass to Marshawn Lynch. We didn’t see much of Beast Mode in the first half simply because the Hawks hardly had the ball.

That put the Seahawks back in a one-score game, trailing 21 – 27.

The Hawks had a late opportunity in the 4th quarter after getting the ball with about 3 minutes left, but they couldn’t convert and turned over the ball after going for it on 4th down.
