SEATTLE — Newly released surveillance video from a business shows people breaking into cars in South Lake Union.

Seattle police said they are searching for two men suspected of smashing the windows of dozens of cars along Westlake Avenue.

A resident called police around 3:00 a.m. Friday and said two men armed with a baseball bat and a crowbar were smashing the windows of cars parked in the 2000 block of Westlake Avenue North.

The suspects fled in a white Trans Am before police arrived. Officers searched the neighborhood but did not find the suspects or the car.

A witness told officers that both men were carrying skateboards. One of them was wearing a hat, a gray sweatshirt, and khaki pants. The other was described as wearing a black sweatshirt and baggy black shorts.

Police said at least 34 vehicles were damaged in the vandalism spree, but reports say as many as 57 cars were broken into.

The vandals reportedly stole car registrations and other personal information in addition to possessions inside those vehicles.

If you have any information, please call Seattle police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

I’m almost positive I saw these guys at the Shell on Taylor in Lower Queen Anne around 5:45am. They were yelling/arguing like 30 feet away from each other. One had a skateboard and the other was walking back to a white Trans Am. Same clothes as the description.

The figures in this dim video don’t appear to be carrying skate boards and why would they? If you’re car prowling you need your hands free to carry stolen items. This is a problem all over the greater Seattle area along with mail theft, shoplifting and burglary. Wasn’t west Seattle just hit with a rash of car prowling?

Yeah… I don’t get the comment about the skateboards. They were walking around with crowbars and skateboards. Makes no sense. Either way, find these chumps .
