Police: K9 rookie helped nab car thieves hiding in blackberry bushes

REDMOND - She may be new to the job, but this rookie had an outstanding night at work.

Remy, a Redmond police K9 helped catch two car thieves late Monday after a woman reported her car stolen, Redmond police said.

According to the Redmond Police Department, a woman spotted her 1993 Honda being stolen around 11 p.m. Monday in the 16600 block of NE 80th Street in Redmond. The woman called police, who quickly drove to the scene and spotted the stolen car a few blocks away.

The suspects allegedly noticed the police, pulled into a parking lot near the intersection of Old Redmond Road and Redmond Way and jumped out of the car. Police used Remy to track the suspects, and the K9 was able to find two of the three hiding.

One suspect was a short distance away, but the other was hiding deep in blackberry bushes about a half mile down the road.

The third suspect got away and police are still searching for him. Anyone who knows about the theft or the suspect is encouraged to call 911.

Police said the rookie K9, is to thank for finding the suspects.

"First capture for our newsest K9, Remy!" the Redmond Police Department tweeted.

The victim got her car back, police said.
