Deputies: Man who barricaded himself in home found hiding in attic

SWAT teams wait outside a barricaded man's home in Shelton Sunday.



SHELTON -- Deputies arrested a 45-year-old Shelton man found hiding in his attic following a three-hour standoff with police Sunday, Mason County sheriff's deputies said.

Sheriff's deputies received tips that a man with multiple arrests warrants was at a residence around noon Sunday in the 100 block of E. Spencer Glen Drive in Shelton.

Deputies called to the home knocked on the door and the suspect allegedly answered before slamming the door and running back into the house.

A sheriff's office SWAT team called to the home waited outside for three hours and commanded the man via a loudspeaker to come out peacefully, sheriff's deputies said.

After some time, deputies obtaining a search warrant and entered the house, firing teargas to possibly incapacitate the suspect. They allegedly found the man hiding in the attic.

Due to the warm temperatures and the length of time the suspect was in the attic, firefighters evaluated and treated the suspect before he was taken to jail, Mason County sheriff's deputies said.

He was booked into jail on multiple arrest warrants, sheriff's deputies said. The details of the warrants were not immediately released to the media.
