Washington inmate sentenced to 12 more years for distribution of child porn

SEATTLE -- A former Vancouver, Wash., man serving a three-year sentence in state prison for attempted child molestation was sentenced in federal court Friday to an additional 12 years for the distribution of photos and videos of children being raped, U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said.

Joseph Schesso, 36, was sentenced in Clark County Superior Court in November 2012 to 40 months to life for attempted child molestation, because of a sexually explicit photos found in his home of a child later identified as someone who had visited his home.

Federal authorities brought separate charges against Schesso in the same case because investigators in Germany had discovered a person in the U.S. was distributing child porn through a file-sharing program and U.S. authorities said it came from Schesso's home.

Schesso pleaded guilty in federal court to distribution of child pornography -- and U.S. District Court Judge Robert Bryan sentenced him to 12 years in prison, to be served after his three years in state prison.

“These crimes carry long sentences, but they are appropriate under the circumstances," Bryan said.
