SEATTLE -- A female bicyclist was struck and killed by a large truck Friday morning near the Seattle Art Museum, police said.

According to police, the driver of a large box truck was headed south on 2nd Avenue and turned left on University Street, hitting the cyclist.

Police contacted the driver, in his late 40s, and are interviewing him. It is not known if alcohol or drugs is a factor at this time. Police are interviewing witnesses.

According to the Seattle Department of Transportation, University Street was closed between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The closure would last for several hours, officials said.

The city recently released an update on the 2nd Avenue bike lane, saying parking on the east side of the street was restricted as construction was underway. However, construction was not slated to start until Sept. 5, 6 and 7.
