SUV plows into hair salon in Columbia City, injures 7 (PHOTOS)

SEATTLE -- Seven people were injured Thursday when an SUV plowed into a hair salon in Seattle's Columbia City neighborhood.

The vehicle crashed into the salon near the intersection of Rainier Ave South and South Ferguson Street at about 1:25 p.m., causing an interior wall to partially collapse into an adjoining restaurant and temporarily pin a father, mother and their 10-year-old child, police said.

Seattle police said witnesses reported hearing the SUV’s engine revving just before it tore through the business.

The couple and their child were taken to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries.

Another woman, complaining of back pain, and her 8-year-old son, who suffered minor burns, were also taken to the hospital, as well as the driver of the SUV who crashed into the salon, police said.

The driver had serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The seventh person injured, a woman in her 40s, was treated at the scene and released.

City Engineers yellow-flagged the building afterward because of the damage done by the SUV.

Officers are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
