Boy with 40-pound hands has doctors baffled (VIDEO)

INDIA -- An 8-year-old boy in India is struggling to lead a normal life with a medical condition that has doctor's baffled.

According to Barcroft TV, the boy can't dress or feed himself because his hands have grown to 13 inches long weighing more than 17 pounds each.

“Many people bully me for my deformity,” Kaleem said in a video posted to YouTube. “They say ‘let’s beat up the kid with big hands.'”

Kaleem is forced to stay at home after a teacher reportedly told him that other children were scared of his hands.

The first doctor who saw Kaleem said, “I’ve never seen a case like this before … as far as I know, this is an extremely rare case of acromegaly, a thyroid related issue.”

Acromegaly is caused by an overproduction of growth hormone in the pituitary gland, which triggers an overproduction of insulin-like growth factor-I. Too much IGF-I will cause abnormal growth in bones and soft tissue.

Treatment for the condition often requires surgery or radiation therapy to get rid of excess cells.
