WATCH TIME-LAPSE: Workers rip up State Route 99, put it back together

SEATTLE – Crews working on the future north portal of the SR 99 tunnel made great progress over the weekend and are on schedule to reopen the highway at 5 a.m. Wednesday, the Washington State Department of Transportation said.

This time-lapse video shows their work to replace the section of SR 99 that crosses above Broad Street, the WSDOT said.

The video spans a 48-hour period in which crews demolished the old roadway and added fill material to the now-closed section of Broad Street to bring it level with the rest of the highway.

Still ahead: Crews must complete utility work on SR 99 near Harrison Street and then repave the highway between Harrison and Broad streets.
