Grandmother tackles man fleeing police, pulls his pants down

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- A grandmother took down a man who was running from the cops earlier this week in Richland.

According to the Tri-City Herald, Becky Powell was driving to a music store with her family when she saw the suspect fleeing. Rather than stopping to see what happened, Powell told her husband to speed up and get in front of the suspect.

"I got into a football stance and said, 'You're going to stay here,'" Powell told the Herald. "He stiff-armed me and I just wrapped him up and threw him on the ground."

Powell told the newspaper she tackled the 20-year-old man and grabbed onto his shorts and underwear as they fell. Another man helped pin Joseph Lewis Fry down until Richland police caught up.

"I whispered in his ear, 'How does it feel to be taken down by a mother of five and a grandmother of three?'" she told the Herald.

Fry reportedly ran after arguing with another panhandler because he had an outstanding warrant.

Police thanked Powell for her service and one officer even gave her a high-five, she told the newspaper.

Still, officers say they don't want people to get involved because they could get hurt.
