Escalator accident severs 2-year-old's finger

TIGARD, Ore. -- A toddler caught in an escalator had his finger severed Wednesday at the Washington Square Mall in Oregon, KPTV reports.

According to KTPV, the 2-year-old boy somehow became trapped in the escalator -- located near the food court -- and had one of his fingers completely severed. Another finger on the same hand was damaged.

The toddler was taken to a local hospital.

It was not immediately known whether or not the toddler was playing improperly on the escalator or some other accident caused the injury.

The finger was recovered, but doctors were not sure if they would be able to reattach it.
