SEATTLE – King County Sheriff John Urquhart announced Monday that he had hired former Seattle Police interim chief Jim Pugel as his undersheriff.

Pugel  announced his retirement from the Seattle Police Department after 31-years back in March.

The 54-year-old was tapped to lead the department in April 2013 after Chief John Diaz retired.

Pugel came to head the department during a particularly difficult time, as Department of Justice recently mandated wide-spread police reforms and a scathing report of police’s handling of the 2012 May Day protests came under the microscope.
