Campfires now allowed in Western Washington

OLYMPIA, Wash --  The state lifted the ban on campfires in Western Washington Friday morning.

“We understand how important campfires are to our visitors’ camping experience,” said State Parks Director Don Hoch.

Still Hoch said even with recent rain fire danger remains high and he asked all campers to be extra cautious with fire.

Western Washington is considered the region west of the crest of the Cascade Mountain range.

Easing of the burn ban follows today’s announcement by the Commissioner of Public Lands and the  Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) that adjusted the current statewide burn ban to allow for recreational campfires in western Washington.
