Cops: Bainbridge Island serial burglar has hit at least 25 homes and is now on run

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND -- A serial burglar is on the run and police need help to stop him.

Cops say 34-year-old Jason Lucas has hit at least 25 homes in Kitsap County alone.

There is a $250,000 warrant out for Lucas’ arrest.

He’s already been convicted five times for burglary. Police say he’s after jewelry and firearms and they worry his next crime could turn violent.

“Well, it can happen to anybody,” said Terry, one victim who asked Q13 Fox News to not use her last name.

Terry’s Bainbridge Island home was hit in the spring. She can still see where cops dusted for prints on a window frame.

She didn’t know anything was wrong until she walked through her garage.

“The door between the garage and the house and that is always locked and it was open about that much,” she said.

Cops say it was likely the work of  Lucas.

“What he is doing is a complete danger not only to himself but to the community,” said police officer Trevor Ziemba. “The path he’s on is setting up to be a potential violent conflict with a homeowner.”

Cops say Lucas would even have a story ready to spin if homeowners got suspicious.

“He’s knocked on doors and has pretended to be a tree service or offering some sort of maintenance,” said Ziemba.

Investigators say some people were actually home at the time when Lucas came barging in. Police are now urging the public to call 911 if Lucas is spotted.
