OKANOGAN COUNTY — A Red Flag Warning was issued for much of Eastern Washington and North Idaho Wednesday morning as a strong low pressure system is expected to bring lightning, adding to an already strong potential for fires.

A round of thunderstorms is expected late Wednesday afternoon in the areas of the Northern Columbia Basin, the Palouse, Spokane and the Okanogan Highlands.

The lightning could easily spark wildfires, compounding the strong winds and warm temperatures already present in the area.

The Red Flag Warning will remain in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday.
