'Cinder' the bear cub burned in Carlton Complex Fire now recovering

A 6-month-old bear cub dubbed "Cinder" whose paws were badly burned in Washington state's largest wildfire was recuperating Monday at the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care in California.

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife said the cub was found hiding on a homeowner's property with badly burned paws from the Carlton Complex Fire.  Cinder's mom was nowhere to be found and may have died in the fire that covered more than 250,000 acres.

The homeowner alerted the authorities, and  Fish and Wildlife captured the cub, placed it in a bear trap and transported it to Wenatchee for treatment. The cub was then flown to the nonprofit Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, which specializes in caring for injured wildlife and returning them to the wild.
