Showers will be turned back on at two Seattle parks following pollution concerns

SEATTLE -- Seattle Parks and Recreation planned to turn back on the showers at Alki Beach Bathhouse and Seacrest Park.

The department had to turn them off earlier this week after Seattle Public Utilities discovered the showers were draining directly into Puget Sound. That is not allowed under Seattle city code or federal law.

The parks department has put a temporary fix in place and is working on a long-term solution.

Signs will be posted near the drains stating, "no soap, no chemicals, no dumping."

The showers at the Alki Beach Bathhouse should be up and running Wednesday and at Seacrest Park by Thursday.

Officials are still working to bring the fish-cleaning sink at Seacrest Park up to code.
