STRANGE: Police investigate alleged kidnapping following bizarre find at bank

BURLINGTON -- Police are investigating a bizarre kidnapping uncovered in an even stranger way at a bank Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Burlington Police Department, a 32-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of cashing a fraudulent check Wednesday afternoon at the Bank of America on East Fairhaven Avenue.

But as officers escorted the man out of the bank, he told police that two men also in the bank were holding him captive, and ordered him to take out money.

Police searched the two men the first man claimed to be held captive by and discovered that one of the men had a gun, police said. All three subjects were taken back to police headquarters for questing.

After interviewing all involved, the first man was released and the two others were booked into Skagit County Jail under suspicion of first-degree kidnapping and unlawful possession of a firearm.

When asked for more details, the Burlington Police Department declined to elaborate, saying the case was under active investigation.
