Man gets 90 days in jail for a fatal hit-and-run accident

PORT ANGELES, Wash. -- A Forks man was sentenced to only 90 days in jail for a hit-and-run accident in which the mother of a 6-year-old girl was killed, it was reported Wednesday.

The Peninsula Daily News said Garrid Larson, 20, of Forks, was sentenced Tuesday. He had been convicted July 2 in the death of Aamanda LaGambina, 25.

The prosecutor asked for a three-year sentence for Larson, but Clallam County Superior Court Judge George Wood imposed a first-time offender option of 90 days, the newspaper said.

According to the paper, State Patrol reports said LaGambina was walking in the eastbound lane of Calawah Way in Forks on the night of March 11, 2013, when Larson's pickup truck hit her and threw her about 170 feet down the roadway.

Larson did not stop but later called a Forks police officer’s personal cellphone to report the accident, the Daily News said.

Larson told the jury during the trial that he thought he had hit an elk.
