ATLANTA — An image of a pit bull standing guard over his injured female companion has gone viral online, according to WAGA.

Michael Mason was driving down the road when he noticed the injured pit bull. Mason snapped a picture of a dog named “Herman” standing over the injured dog.

Help later arrived, but the female dog’s injuries were too severe. She did not survive.

The photo eventually made it onto Facebook.

“Walking Dead” actress Kylie Szymanski posted it on her fan page. Now, the post has been shared more than 1,500 times.

Fulton County, Georgia animal services have received hundreds of calls.

Szymanski later posted an update on Facebook. She says Herman has one more day with animal services before he can be adopted or fostered.
