SEATTLE — A mother and her 24-year-old son were arrested Friday for allegedly carjacking a woman at the Northgate park-n-ride.

Nancy Epps, 54, and her son, Kendrick Epps, 24, were arrested at a motel in the 13300 block of Aurora Avenue North late Friday afternoon.

Police said a woman was loading bags into the back of her Jeep at the Northgate park-n-ride around 5 p.m. Thursday when a man grabbed her from behind in a bear hug and put his hands over her mouth. As the victim fought to rip the suspect’s hands away from her face, she suddenly heard a woman’s voice urging her to hand over her keys, police said.

The victim was able to break free from the man’s grasp, but dropped her keys in the process. The victim then saw a man and woman—who detectives have identified as Kendrick and Nancy Epps—climb into her Jeep and speed away, almost running over the victim in the process, police said.

The carjacker lost control of the Jeep, however, and struck a parked car and careened into a curb, shearing off the Jeep’s front axle and deploying its airbags.

With the Jeep out of action, the man and woman fled on foot, ditching some of their clothing in the process. Police said detectives later found documents in clothes tossed near the scene of the crash that linked the clothes to Kendrick and Nancy Epps.
