VANTAGE -- A multi-vehicle crash involving at least 15 cars and nine semi trucks closed Interstate 90 near Vantage on Thursday.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, a large crash closed I-90 in both directions just after 11 a.m. The interstate was closed Eastbound at Milepost 115 near Kittitas. Westbound lanes were closed briefly, but reopened around 1 p.m.

Eleven people were injured in the crash, Washington State Patrol Trooper Darron Wright said. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Drivers were being detoured onto the Old Vantage Highway. Officials say you should expect delays on the 15-mile detour.

WSDOT officials said the Eastbound lanes of I-90 would remain closed until Friday morning because of poor visibility from dust on the road. The closure starts at milepost 115 near Kittitas. Westbound traffic is not affected.

DOT crews planned to reevaluate conditions in the morning. All of the vehicles involved in the crash were removed by Thursday afternoon.

The collision adds to further backup problems, since US Highway 2 is shut in both directions due to a fire. People headed eastbound should expect long delays.
