CLALLAM COUNTY — Deputies arrested a 16-year-old accused of stealing a car and leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit through the Olympic National Forest.

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, a witness saw the suspect get into a car that was left running outside of a gas station in Forks. The victim and the store owner followed the stolen car east on Highway 101 reaching speeds of 85 mph.

Officials say an Olympic National Park ranger spotted the car and tried to stop it, but the driver made a U-turn and drove toward oncoming traffic forcing other cars off the road.

A sheriff’s deputy then followed the suspect. He eventually pulled over and got out of the car but refused to cooperate.

Deputies say when they tried to arrest the boy he knocked the stun gun out of the deputy’s hand, picked it up and fired. The deputy was hit with only one of the stun gun’s probes.

After a struggle, deputies took him into custody.

The suspect could face multiple felony charges including felony eluding, possession of stolen property (motor vehicle), attempting to disarm a police officer, resisting arrest and 1st degree assault.
