Firework misfires, hits 13-year-old boy in the head

lights-and-sirensMASON COUNTY — A 13-year-old boy was hurt in a fireworks accident Friday night in the Island Lake area.

According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, the firework misfired and struck the boy in the back of the head. This happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. at a 4th of July celebration in the 100 block of Rockwood Drive.

Officials started CPR on the boy immediately. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition has not been released.

Deputies say the firework was supposed to fly into the air like a mortar.
