LACONNER, Wash. -- The Rainbow Bridge in LaConner was closed for inspection Thursday after a citizen reported shortly after 1 p.m. hearing a loud noise and seeing possible material falling from the bridge.

Washington State Department of Transportation officials were contacted by Skagit County and arrived at the scene for further inspection. After several hours of inspection, WSDOT declared the bridge safe -- and the span was reopened at about 9:35 p.m.

The bridge has been around since 1957. It crosses to the Swinomish Reservation and the Shelter Bay community.
